Nuby Review: Safari Teether

I think I have an addiction to baby teethers.  I'm always wanting Mykenzi to try every possible teether out there.  I think because the whole "teething" process terrifies me for her.  I mean those two bottom teeth were brutal for her and I know the top two are creeping around the corner to make their debut any day.  So, if 17 different teethers will help my little lady through the process, so be it.  I'll be "that" Mom, and I'm totally cool with it.

So, now that you know my house is stocked with every teether known to man, you bet I jumped at the chance when Nuby asked me to give their Safari Loop Teether a whirl.  I couldn't wait to get this teether in the mail because Mykenzi already has a similar loop teether, but Nuby's Safari Teether has more for her to nibble on with different textures.

I think the big winner on this teether is the teething massager piece.  Mykenzi will chew on that piece forever if I let her.  It has soft little bristles that massage the gums as she chews.  She also favors the different animal pieces and the crinkly sounding tabs at the end of the teether.

While overall I do feel the teether is a great asset to our toy box, there are some minor things I wish were a little bit different.

  • The animal pieces are a very hard plastic which hasn't proven to be a problem yet, but as a first time Mom it's one of those quirky things I worry about possibly hurting her if she bites too hard.

  • No cooling option.  I'm really in favor of teethers that respond well or are made for putting in the refrigerator.  Those are my "go-to" teethers for that 3am screaming wake up call when teeth are peeking their way through the gum line.  I did try to put this in the refrigerator, but it doesn't hold the cooling effect long enough to make a difference.

  • Bring on the crinkle.  Mykenzi loves toys that have the crinkle noise inside.  I was positive she was going to love the fact that this teether had not only a crinkle piece, but a crinkle piece that resembled tags.  She has a thing for tags too.  While she does play with this piece, she doesn't play with it as much as I expected, but I feel like its because it doesn't crinkle loud enough for her.

While these may seem like "cons" to me, they may not bother you or your baby.  For us, the positives far outweigh our "cons" and this teether will remain in our toy rotation well through toddler-hood.  This product does state that it is ideal for back teeth teething, so I'm really excited to see how well it helps us through that transition when it is time.
