Long weekends are my favorite! Especially ones where Daddy gets that extra day off work! Not to take away from what the weekend is really about and that's celebrating America, but it is super nice to have Myke home an extra day to spend with us. Despite the look on her face in this picture, she really does enjoy when her Dad is home too.
We kicked off our three day weekend with a trip to Pensacola, which is about an hour away from us and homes our nearest BabiesRus. Thankfully for my husband and his wallet the BabiesRus is an hour away because that place ranks along the lines of Target on my spending Resume. This shopping trip was supposed to be for a Baby Shower gift and I walked out with half a cart for the gift and half a cart for Mykenzi. BUT in my defense, their clearance was 1/2 off the already marked down price! How could I not stock up?! Plus, even Daddy couldn't say no to these onesie prints. I even snagged the cutest little swimsuit on clearance, because you know, we live in Florida so she needs like 17 suits, right?
In addition to spending money on things I probably didn't need, we also had to get Mykenzi a new car seat. We switched to a convertible in May and bought the Graco 4ever. After the switch, my car ride loving baby turned into a screaming, upset mess every time we got into the car. After insisting the first few times were due to teething (a natural excuse for every meltdown, right?) we decided to put her back in her infant seat to see if it made a difference. Low and behold I had my car ride loving baby back. So, we loaded the Graco 4Ever back up and took it back. I was so impressed with BabiesRus' customer service. Our return was streamline and they were very supportive and understanding of our situation and gave some great recommendations of new seats. We decided on the Britax Marathon and I'm super obsessed with this BabiesRus Exclusive print! It's called the "Nantucket" if you find yourself obsessing over it too.
So what does every new car seat need? A new car to put it in, right? Wrong. Except this time things really worked out in my favor because that's exactly what happened. My sweet, sweet husband found an amazing deal and picked out this beautiful Honda Accord for me.
As you may recall, when I was pregnant I owned a 2DR Honda Accord and that little gem was my baby. I did not want to see it go, but with a baby, four doors was an absolute must. The heavier Mykenzi got the harder it was for me to lift and squeeze her past the drivers seat to get to the back seat. So, with limited inventory, the need for four doors, and the right price later ... we ended up with a Honda Civic. Although, significantly smaller than my Accord, the Civic had 4 doors and did the job ... for a while. I found myself in tears of regret ... you know, the kind like after a bad haircut. I missed my Accord immensely and kept saying I should've just found a way to make the two doors work. After months of regret, my husband came home last week with a deal and said, "If you drive it and you want it, it's yours!" I drove it, I loved it, and now it is happily parked in my driveway. I've got quite the catch y'all! Even when I'm a brat about things, he goes above and beyond to make me happy. So now I'm trying to be on my best behavior, I mean he did just buy me a new car, the least I could do is keep my bratty-ness in check.
After a fun-filled day of cars and baby shopping it was America's Birthday! The reason for the entire weekend! We toyed with the idea of taking Mykenzi to see fireworks, but because Mykenzi has lame parents who didn't want to brave the astronomical amount of people downtown, with a baby, with impending rain, we opted for dinner with Grandma ... which was the better option anyway. We headed to our favorite Hibachi place and consumed our weight in food. And again, I'm that blogger who never takes pictures of her food because I always remember after I've inhaled my plate. Good thing I'm not a food blogger. After dinner we sat outside on the restaurant's deck and to our surprise got to see fireworks from downtown anyway! Mykenzi loved them! The minute we got in our cars to head home, that impending rain let loose!
Nothing too exciting to report for Sunday. I laid on my couch, in my pajamas all day and enjoyed every single minute. Well, until about 6pm when I did the last minute laundry scramble to make sure we all had clean underwear for the week. I'm happy to report that we in fact, have fresh bottoms for the week.
Hope you guys have a safe and happy Fourth! I can't wait to catch up on all of your posts and see all of your babes in Red, White, and Blue!
