Dear Mykenzi: 12 Month Update

Well, Baby Girl, you are officially a year old.  That also officially makes you a toddler! I can't even handle that word yet.  This will be my last monthly update for you.  So sad. II'm sure I'll keep up with what you are doing in future posts, but not as detailed as these have been.  Your first year of life has been so fun and its been amazing to watch you grow.  I can't wait to see what this next year will bring.

For your Birthday, your Dad and I let you smash a cake.  It was just the three of us in the dining room.  We sang you Happy Birthday and you loved it.  You even sang back, "Burrrrrdaaaay."  I spent two days making you the cutest tutu with a matching bow and you screamed as soon as the tutu went on.  You were not having it.  So we took it off and you were a happy camper on a sugar high.

We saw your Pediatrician for your 12 Month appointment and you are weighing in at 19lbs 4oz and you measured 29.5 inches tall.  Your Doctor said you are right on track.

You graduated to size 4 diapers this month and are in 12 to 18 month clothing.  I'm loving clothes in this size, they are so cute and trendy.  Dressing you before was already fun, but now its going to be even more fun.

Your eyes have stayed Blue for an entire year now.  I do see some Green in them every now and then. Your hair is getting so long and is still Light Brown.  It's starting to get super curly.  It's adorable.  It is getting to the point where I think I should cut it to clean it up a bit, but I just don't have the heart to do that yet.  So you'll look like a little rag muffin a little while longer.  At least you are a cute rag muffin.

We made it through a year of Breastfeeding!  I never thought we would make it this far!  I'm so proud of us both.  Now I'm trying to decide our next move.  I don't know if I have the heart to wean just yet.  You are consistently eating solids and still love your Spaghetti and Peas.

Sleep is great this month.  Hopefully now that you are older it will stay pretty consistent.  You are taking two solid naps a day, although, I hear that one of those naps will soon go missing.

You have 5 teeth!  You broke another one of your bottom teeth this month the same week you were sick with Roseola.  We also think the other side is trying to join but no tooth yet!

You are a walking machine.  If I would let you walk all day with your Lion toy you would, that's what your life revolves around at the moment.  You are also quite the chatterbox these days.  You have a new word this week, "Oh, Sh*t."  which is hilarious and so bad at the same time.  Daddy blames me and I blame him, but you probably caught it from me.  Oops.  To make matters worse, I find it absolutely hilarious when you say it and so you think it's funny.  Guess Mommy has to learn to watch her mouth.

You are still my tiny dancer.  You love music and dancing.  I can't wait until you are old enough to take dance classes.  You are also quite the snuggle bunny at this age.  I'm soaking up all the snuggles I can.  I'm hoping they stick around forever.

You are such a joy to raise, and I hope you think we are doing an okay job.  We have loved every single minute of having you a part of our life this year.  We are excited for many more to come.  This weekend we get to celebrate with our family and closest friends.  You are so loved sweet girl!

Happy Birthday, my Little Love.  I hope you've had a wonderful year!

  1. It's so hard to believe she's already one! I love her hair... no need to cut it yet! ;) I think it'll be hard for me to get Caleb's cut for the first time too.

Caleb is so big, he's been in size four diapers since about 5 months - LOL!

  2. Love a good cake smash! These photos are adorable! And who says you have to call her a toddler now? I don't do that until they are 2, so you still have plenty of baby time left in my opinion :)

  3. Ha! She really enjoyed that cake! I can't believe how she can say other words than mama & dada. P can only say those, on repeat, all day long :) Our little ones are almost exactly the same size! Oh I hope one day they can meet!
