They say when life hands you lemons, make lemonade. Well, at 8 months pregnant and with the amount of lemons life has been handing me, I'm only a few lemons shy of doing this ...
Don't worry. I can handle a few more lemons before this baby gets any Tequila. But seriously, do you ever feel like God is testing you for something and you just don't know what it is yet? My plan for the end of my pregnancy was to be as stress free as possible. We moved at 32 weeks with Mykenzi and I was stressed to the max, I swore that wasn't happening this time. Well, life and God apparently had a good laugh at that because stress is about all I know right now.
If you've been following my ramblings, you may know that I had a really bad stomach bug that ultimately led to an ultrasound showing Rowan was measuring huge at 3 weeks ahead. A week later we then found out he was measuring that far ahead because I had come down with Gestational Diabetes. After numerous impromptu appointments to get my sugars in check, a diet change, and learning to carb count we thought we had gotten a grasp back on life.
Wrong.
Early Saturday morning I received a call from my frantic Mother telling me my oldest Brother had been in an accident. He was walking along the road when a car hit him and fled the scene. The first initial hit launched him into another car who thankfully stopped and called for help. The prognosis at that point wasn't good. He was in coma, on life support, and losing blood from all his wounds. It didn't look good. We immediately prepared for the worst, began to pray for a miracle, and by the Grace of God a miracle happened. In the early hours of Sunday morning my brother woke up. He responded to commands like "squeeze my hand" and "open your eyes." Something we didn't think we would witness. While he made progress in one department other complications began to arise. His kidneys started to fail, his blood pressure sky-rocketed, and he was losing blood like water from all his wounds requiring multiple transfusions. Against all odds again, he regained stability and was cleared for surgery to start on the wounds he was losing the most blood from. After 7 grueling hours he made it out of surgery, but not without more complications on the horizon. His surgery sight may not stay well enough to live, which will require amputation. We won't know anything further until the end of the week. He is also scheduled for another surgery at the end of the week providing he stays stable. This morning when I checked on him they had gone and removed his breathing tube and he was breathing on his own. Some breaths were shallow while others were deep, but he was holding his own. I've never witnessed the power of prayer as strong as I have in this tragedy. I'm so thankful to our family, friends, and even strangers who have continually prayed and offered us words of encouragement and support. We are celebrating all the small victories we can with him and keep praying he will make a full recovery. We are by no means out of the woods as he faces challenges daily, but we remain hopeful.
Life has been a crazy ride this last month, and I can only hope its preparing me for the miracle I'll get to experience in July. I continue to keep my faith because I know there is a light at the end of this tunnel somewhere.
I'll be back to my regular bumpdate next week. With everything going on my blogging schedule has taken a back seat, so bear with me as I rearrange some things and get caught up. I have some posts coming soon!
Oh Hun I am so sorry! I will be praying for your brother, and the rest of your family!

ReplyDeleteI've been thinking of you sweet friend, because I know how hard it is to deal with tragedy during pregnancy. My father in law lost his battle to cancer when I was 27 weeks pregnant with Aiden. And while it was the hardest thing I've ever had to go through, I saw God show up for our family in many ways and when Aiden came, he brought so much joy. He was a light in a very dark time for all of us. I pray the same for you and I hope your brother can pull through this. XOXO

ReplyDeleteI'm playing catch up on all my blogs now that I'm on leave, and I know this was awhile ago, but I hope your brother is doing well! I completely understand the stress of moving, since we decided to do it at 35 weeks with Miss Eloise, but that is nothing compared to what you've been going through! Hugs mama!
