2 Month Update

I swear I blinked ... and here we are with a 2 month old.  I have repeatedly said that I need a pause button but I just can't believe have fast time is going and how fast she is changing.  Just when I thought I had my emotions under control, I had the brilliant idea of looking at pictures of Mykenzi from when she was born ... two words ... hysterical wreck.  It wasn't pretty.  I'm so excited to watch her grow but I also want her to stay little forever.

So, if you read my post on Postpartum its no secret that we struggled with Breastfeeding.  Well, Mykenzi latched like a champ so I guess I was the only one who really struggled with it.  Once Mykenzi would latch a sense of depression fell over me and I would find myself in a puddle of tears every time I nursed.  It was awful.  I hated breastfeeding and I was not bonding with Mykenzi like I should.  Faced with the decision to quit or keep going, I then turned to pumping which lessened the feelings of depression and Mykenzi could still reap the benefits of breast milk.  The next battle was strengthening my milk supply.  Since my Postpartum post, we have given nursing another go around and have had major success.  The feelings of depression have gone away (Thank Goodness!) and I am actually bonding with baby.  I do still supplement with formula but I have made major strides in strengthening my milk supply.  Only two months of breastfeeding and it's been a long tough road but I'm super happy I haven't given up just yet.

Things are starting to get fun as she gets more socially interactive.  I love our morning conversations and how big her smile is when she wakes up for her feedings.  She is such a happy baby and that smile melts my heart every. dang. time.  Just when I don't think having her in my life can get any better she does something that completely steals my heart all over again.  Here is some more 2 month cuteness for your enjoyment:

Age:  2 Months

Weight: 10lbs 14.5oz

Length: 23.1 inches

Size (Diapers, Onesies, Etc.): We've graduated to size 1 diapers and some 0-3M clothing.  Some of her NB clothing still fits, but she is slowly growing out of them. *Tear  Although, since she is so long anything with footies has to be at least 3M for her to be able to straighten her legs properly.

Eyes:  The brightest blue I've ever seen.  They are just beautiful.  I wonder if that is the color they are planning to stay?  Only time will tell.

Hair:  Light Brown with a hint of red and thicker than ever.  Her Pediatrician did say that she still has time to lose it ... if she does lose her hair, it should be around the 4 month mark.  If she makes it past that then she should keep it all.  Let's hope for the latter.

Sleeping:  We average about 4-5 hours before a mid-morning feeding and then another 3-4 before we have to get up for the day.

Eating:  She loves to eat and tries to inhale her fist to let you know.  She is eating 4-5 ounces at night and averages about 3-3.5 during the day.

Milestones:  She has certainly found her voice and isn't afraid to use it!  She's holding her head up nice and steady with the occasional dive bomb into Momma's face.  That's okay though, I'm positive she's just super excited to give me kisses.

Memorable Outings:  Mykenzi went to her first local festival.  It was the Destin Seafood Festival and she did great!  I carried her in my Moby Wrap and she slept most of the time.  She did not seem to mind the bands, loud music, or crowds of people.  However, she was not too fond of the planes doing skywriting.

Loves:  Smiling and chatting with Momma in the mornings.  She loves music! We often listen to Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" and she kicks and wiggles the entire song.  She loves walks around the neighborhood in her stroller, car rides, and the Moby Wrap.

Hates:  Falling asleep ... she will fight it to the death! But Momma always wins!  She also hates the fact that she is not mobile.  She can't figure out why her legs aren't taking anywhere.  I'm in trouble when she finally does figure it out.

Words/Sounds:  Coo-ing like crazy! She's most talkative in the mornings.  Lately, she giggles so hard she squeaks ... it is the most adorable thing ever.

Nicknames: We do have a nickname that we frequent but I don't think it is internet appropriate.  It has to do with her frequent bowel movements and it's one of those things that would win us the "Parents of the Year" award.  If you other Moms share some of your unorthodox parenting moments I will seriously consider sharing.  I will say that we will have to find another nickname before she learns to repeat things.

Funny Moments:  Everyday is a funny moment.  There is nothing specific but just watching her come into her personality makes us laugh.  She is such a fun baby and so full of life.  She definitely knows how to keep a smile on our faces.

Looking Forward To:  As sad as I am about her getting so big ... I am excited to see her enter the "Baby" stage as she leaves the "Newborn" stage behind.  We frequently catch a glimpse of that world as she gains her personality and I'm excited to see how fun that stage is going to be.  In the meantime, I'm soaking up every last minute of the "Newborn" stage.

Upcoming Appts:  4 Month Well Visit in December

  1. Aww, she is SO cute! I love her headbands. That is one of the things I will miss with my little boy - haha! Glad to hear everything is going better with the feeding - who knew breastfeeding was so difficult?! I always assumed it would be easy until I started reading more about it.

  2. Oh, Mykenzie is such a sweetie! I love that sweet smile in the first picture! Way to go for hanging in there with breastfeeding! I had those exact feelings in the first weeks; I want to say things got better around 6-8 weeks. Around 3 months I started to really love how easy it was to breastfeed! :)

  3. Oh how I wish we could have some mama and mini playdates! So happy to hear you gave breastfeeding another go and it worked for you. As long as baby is happy and healthy that's all that matters! You can also get some tea called Mother's Milk and it boosts your supply. I found some at Whole Foods. We have our two month appointment on Monday and I am so not looking forward to those shots!

  4. I'm so glad nursing worked out for you!! I pumped Kanes first month bc he wouldn't latch. He ended up nursing almost 9 months :-)

And btw, I totally make up all kinds of nicknames when my babies are stinky. It's normal!!

  5. New follower here, found you from Word on the Streets :) My gosh is your little girl adorable! My little girl is almost 3 months so they are very close in age and doing pretty much the same things. It's so fun watching them grow, but also so sad at the same time.

Also, this is my 3rd and I have breastfed (or tried) with all of them and I can totally agree with you - it is so dang hard and no one told me it would be! I even took a class and not once was it mentioned how hard it will be! Good for you for sticking with it, most important is that Mom & baby are happy!
