Merlin's Magic

So, I'm officially the worst blogger ever.  I promised a post last week and I let myself get caught up in the hustle and bustle of Christmas and the New Year that blogging dropped a few notches on the priority list.  For those of you that have been ever so patiently waiting on this post ... I'm sorry! I'm really going to try to work on being a better blogger this year!

Ok! On to what you are really here to read.  So, if you follow me on Instagram (@MrsJenB11) you may have seen a picture of my daughter dressed like a marshmallow while snoozing away. Ridiculous looking? Yes.  Necessary? Abso-freaking-lutely.

Mykenzi has always been a great sleeper.  I don't know how we got so lucky but I'll take it.  I always say that if I could guarantee all my babies would be as good as Mykenzi then I'd have a lot!  Which terrifies me about number two ... I always hear that if number one is a blessing, two is a hellion. BUT that is an entirely different blog post for a different day.  Mykenzi is only four months old so number two is in the very distant future.

Around 3.5 months Mykenzi started fighting sleep with shreiks, squeals, and full-on tantrums.  My angel baby was a monster when it came time for anything sleep related.  Once she was down she was okay, getting her there was a whole different ball game.  Bed times started getting later and later, her sleep was restless, and Mommy and Daddy were more exhausted than during her Newborn days.  My guess was the 4 month sleep regression and I was damned to let it win.  We had to do something, and quick.  It was about that time that I spotted the cutest little marshmallow posted by one of my fellow Mommy Instagrammers.  I was intrigued and asked her to dish the details.  She told me about Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit and how it helped settle her little one into a more peaceful sleep.  It gave the sensation of being swaddled with out being swaddled.  That was perfect for Mykenzi because she was channeling Houdini and somehow completely out of her swaddle by sunrise.  I swear I could've duct taped that swaddle to her and she would've figured a way out. Don't worry, I didn't.  Don't call those people on me.

So, in true first time mom fashion I read review after review of this sleepsuit ... they were all incredibly informative, real, and even the negatives weren't that negative.  So I ordered the suit.  I am amazed at how much it has helped our bedtime routine and how much it has helped Mykenzi's sleep routine.

We start our bath at 7pm, followed by an 8oz bottle feeding, we hang-out for a bit, do some last minute diaper changes, and finally put her in the suit and into her bed.  Baths are every other night so on "no bath"  night we start the bottle at 7:30pm so we can keep the bottle and hang out time on schedule.  Since having Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit, Mykenzi has not gone to bed later than 9:30pm and she sleeps until 8-8:30am.  Not only is our nightly sleeps better, naps during the day in her crib are longer.  I don't know what it is about this suit but it truly is magic.

We live in Florida so I opted for the cotton sleepsuit versus the microfleece sleepsuit.  I put Mykenzi in short sleeve onesie and socks before placing her in her suit but that is just personal preference.  Not only is she warm enough, I have peace of mind that she will stay warm throughout the night and I don't have to worry about a blanket ending up over her face.  So not only does Merlin help baby sleep, but Mommy sleeps better too!

A little side note:  I was concerned about what size to get since Mykenzi was 4 months and it comes in 3-6mo and 6-9mo ... Mykenzi is tall so I hesitated on getting the 3-6mo but I'm glad I did.  It seems very true to size.  She even has room to grow, so I feel confident we will be using this until she can roll during sleep.

So Moms, if you were considering this for your baby, I would highly recommend it.  I have read many success stories and have since become one of those success stories.  If you have any questions and that I haven't covered in this review, please ask away!

  1. I need this. Presley is the worst when it comes to sleeping and lately it's even more terrible. She had never slept through the night. How tall is M? P is almost 26" so I'm wondering what size to get?
Ps I finally got the rolling belly laugh on New Years Eve!!

    1. M was just shy of 26" at her appt two weeks ago so her and P should be about the same. Her feet just started poking out the bottom. When we first got it her feet were covered. She still has lot of room to grow so I think you should be fine with 3-6mo.

Yay for rolling belly laughs! What a great way to kick off the new year!

  2. I've never seen this before my sister used it earlier this year with my nephew, she said it was the only way he would sleep! Yay for finding something that works!
