Playing it Safe

Lately, my head has been spinning.  We decided to make the jump from an infant rear facing car seat to a convertible. I've been drowning in car seat types, reviews, and measurements. Ah, the joys of parenthood.

While my brain has been on overload with Gracos, Britax, and Dionos (Oh My!) ... My lovely Insta Mamas have been have been sounding off about the recent dangers of cyberspace that is known as Baby Role Playing.  While my initial thought was not rated PG-13, the reality of the situation is still a sickening one.  Baby Role Playing is apparently very much a thing and could very much happen to you.  People snatch your precious pictures of your little one, use them as their own, and even fabricate their own captions about your baby like they are the parent and apply them to those stolen photos.  They basically cyber-kidnap your child. Sick, right?

I'm praying that my little lady is still safe despite the fact that through this blog her life has been very public.  I'll be taking more precautions in order to protect my daughter's identity on the World Wide Web.  Some great tips from some fellow bloggers can be found here and here about protecting your child's privacy on public profiles.

I'll be using watermarked images when my daughters face is visible among some other changes to keep her protected.  While I make these necessary changes, I hope to not let it affect the content of my posts and what I share with you all.  I contemplated nixing Mykenzi's monthly updates, but she is the reason this blog exists so I will be continuing to share until 12 Months.   I love sharing my life as a Mother with you and I love the bridge this blog has created to help me connect with other Mommas, but nothing is worth more than the safety of my child.  So, bare with me as a I make a few adjustments and regroup to make this cozy little blog space a little safer for my babe.  I urge you to do the same, especially if you have public profiles ... this Baby Role Playing things reminds me of how naive I am to the fact of how ugly this world can be.

By they way, I believe we have decided on the Graco 4Ever for M's new seat?  Anyone else have one? Thoughts? Other recommendations?

Stay safe, my friends!

  1. Lately I have been grappling with those same issues regarding privacy. I can't think of anything more important than protecting my daughter. It's incredibly sad that we live in a world where these things are a reality. Somehow I feel that there should be a better way to shut those accounts down.

I love to write and share, but, lately I am questioning whether I've shared too much. What do I do from here on out. Do I delete everything and start fresh? Do I just take better precautions? What have you decided to do?

As far as the convertible car seat we have the diono radian rxt; and I cannot recommend it enough to my momma friends. It's amazing and perfect if you want more babies and need to save space. It's narrow so you can fit three all in one backseat. Definitely look into it!

    Have a great day!

  2. I know the struggle all too well and I have been meaning to watermark my images too but have been too lazy. Part of me thinks if I'm going to go to the extreme of not blogging about my babies anymore, than I probably should just delete my FB account too - because there I upload images all of the time that are not watermarked and can easily be stolen. It's a tough topic!

  3. So many of these types of posts have been circulating lately and it got me thinking, I triple checked my privacy settings just to make sure my accounts were private. Well today my cousin screen shot a photo of an Instagram account who was using my sons photo as their profile picture. It freaked me out so much I went on a photo delete spree. I have no idea how my photo was taken and have no idea who that person was. So I say you can never be too cautious even when you think you are sharing among approved friends. Even though I'm a new follower I won't stop reading if your photos are watermarked or you stop sharing all together.

  4. Oh my gosh. This makes my stomach turn. :( Why would people do that? I'm going to have to think on this too. Thanks so much for sharing! Is your instagram private? I recently made mine public, but now I'm debating making that change too.

  5. This is so sad and sickening. I created a new IG just for my blog, keeping my old one private just for people I know. And it's still scary!
