I was a little shell shocked when I woke up and it was Monday. I have no idea where my weekends are going. I blink and they are gone. It probably doesn't help that I've jam-packed our weekends with to-do lists up until Mykenzi's Birthday.
This weekend was no exception. We are gearing up to finish our remodel on our shower and our fireplace. Our contractor had to take an unexpected trip out of town to tend to his home in Atlanta that he was renting out. Unfortunately, when he got there the previous tenants had trashed the place, so he did a small overhaul and asked if we minded putting our reno on hold. We agreed as long as all was done by August 1st so this Momma doesn't have a heart attack while trying to make a happy house for a certain first birthday.
So, when we bought our 1978 built home, it was mostly move in ready with a small few remodel projects we had set in our minds that we would take on over the next few years. We bought it with fresh paint, new tile, new carpet, new appliances, and new bath vanities ... but the Master stand up shower, fireplace, and kitchen cabinets and counters could use a face lift. You can read about our hot mess of a plumbing issue here, which is what led us to do the shower first. The fireplace is basically a rock wall and wasn't really a concern until a mobile baby tried to face plant into it a few times. Not to mention the only way we could get our furniture to fit with the sliding glass door is to mount our TV on the ledge of the fireplace. You know, within reaching distance of a baby because our baby will never touch it right? WRONG. So wrong. Yeah, I know what you're thinking, it was stupid to even think she wasn't going to touch it. We can just add that to the "stupid things you say before your baby gets here" list.
So anyway, we used the weekend to move furniture and prepare for rock to hit the fan. Literally. Wednesday morning my house will be full on chaos and rock wall will be flying everywhere. Mykenzi and I will be going on a field trip to avoid rock concussions, maybe I'll use this as an excuse to check out our new Hobby Lobby.
Ready for some "Before" pictures?
Don't let the front fool you, that rock wraps all the way around to the back in the dining room. Just for the record, and so you don't think I'm a total idiot ... the TV was too big and heavy to sit on the mantle, so that's how it ended up on the ledge. This remodel will allow us to get it mounted above the mantle.
I can't wait to tile this shower. It will free up a few inches in this tight space. I really have no idea how my 6ft husband fit in here. Not to mention, the corroded caulking. Yuck.
Here are the tile picks. Hoping to keep it light and airy. Plus, I have a hard time saying no to anything with gold tones in it.
So, here's to hoping reno schedules actually stick and I don't explode from the stress.
If my social media suddenly goes radio silent and you hear on the news of a missing contractor ... You don't know anything. Kidding, kind of. #hebettermakemydeadline
Happy Monday Y'all.
Undertaking a reno before a big party you're brave!! This birthday planning stuff is no joke. For her 2nd birthday I am totally leaving town.
